Q&A: Shelf Life and Overseas Deliveries

Mail BagReaders and customers submitted a number of commonly asked questions this past week, so it was felt that it was best to combine them into a single blog post.

Q. What is your product’s shelf life? Is the product still potent if it is past the label expiration date? Is there a recommended way to store the product?

A. The organic sulfur that I sell is packaged in one-pound plastic jars or five-pound resealable bags. I consider kitchen cupboards, closets, or another location that is not subjected to excessive heat and direct sunlight to be acceptable storage areas. To obtain an answer to your shelf life question, I submitted it to my drop shipper, who replied that the sulfur study has tested unopened jars and vacuum sealed bags that were more than 10 years old and found that they had retained their full potency as long as they were kept under dry storage. If you prefer to take a more conservative approach, you can rely instead on the product expiration date (approximately 3 years from the date of manufacture) that’s listed on each packaging label.

Q. I live overseas. Do you ship to a post office box address, as my country does not support courier service to a local street address.

A. My containers are shipped overseas by the US Postal Service and are assigned a unique tracking number that I use to monitor the status of their arrival at their final destination. I currently sell the product to overseas customers who receive their packages at their post office boxes, so I don’t anticipate that you would have a problem with delivery.

Q. Do you have a sulfur distributor located in the Middle East?

A. While there aren’t any organic sulfur distributorships that I am aware of that directly serve the Middle East, you can order the product from authorized dealers located in the United Kingdom, France, and Germany.

Organic Sulfur For Health has successfully shipped product to customers located in 12 countries around the world, including Australia and New Zealand. We are aware that package security and delivery may be an area of concern in some locales. One technique that others have used successfully is to purchase the product from an authorized distributor and ship the package to a trusted colleague or business associate located outside your country of origin who agrees to hand-deliver it to you.

Since sulfur is so acid (I checked with pH paper) am I in trouble with my bones if I take 3 tsp a day? I already have osteoporosis.

  2. admin Says:

Organic sulfur (methylsulfonylmethane) has a different makeup from mineral sulfur and is actually very alkaline with a pH of 9.3. Organic sulfur is not considered toxic per websites like WebMD (http://wb.md/1OxaSwy) and any excess that your body cannot use will be excreted. A small percentage of people taking organic sulfur experience a Herxheimer (detox) reaction such as nausea, headaches, or diarrhea which is usually remedied by drinking more water.

    My tap water: 6.4
3.5 oz tap water with 1 tsp organic sulfur is 6.6 – and boy is it bitter.

Hydrion pH paper by Micro Essential Lab.com from Swanson vitamin co.

Am I doing something wrong? I would think that 9.3 would change the water more.

Julia, are you taking water from the hot or cold tap side of your faucet? Cold tap water from a municipal source contains chlorine and may also have fluoride, depending on your community’s policies regarding that chemical. If you don’t have access to pure or filtered water, try heating your tap water and letting the dissolved mixture cool 10-15 minutes before drinking. Adding a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar or a smidgen of a sweetener like stevia or pure maple syrup will cut down on the bitterness of the sulfur.
